The fashion industry produces billions of tons of textile waste every year, which end up in landfills polluting the people and the environment around it. Most of the fabric used in clothing nowadays is synthetic, meaning that originally it was created in a laboratory by mixing chemical materials. Hence, by throwing unwanted clothes into the garbage bin is no different than throwing away plastic bottles without recycling them.
The goal of this major project, is to find a way to reuse all this unwanted synthetic clothes by upcycling them. The new form of material produced, was created by applying heat and pressure to the textiles. A line of evening purses was designed to demonstrate the
potential applications of this new material form.
