BA (Hons) Popular Music students treated listeners to a fantastic performance of live jazz music in the Eric Liddell Centre on Monday 25th May.
The music, written by the students and performed in Edinburgh’s Jazz Bar earlier in the year as one of their final assessments, featured songs penned by each of the sixth performers.
“I wouldn’t even say any of us are specifically jazz musicians” said John Percival, one the performers.
“All of our jazz experience has been through our experience at Edinburgh Napier. Outside of university I’d never performed in a jazz band before.” explained Ben Lobban, also performing.
“It’s something we love, though, and would like to continue. We’d love to get some gigs at the Jazz Bar, or in Glasgow. Then we’d definitely be official jazz musicians!”
The students, all of which will graduate from Edinburgh Napier in July, are excited for their future in the industry.
“You have to create you’re own job.” says Popular Music student and jazz performer Tom Dallas. “You’ve got to go out there into the industry and market yourself, to find your own work. Right now, it’s just say yes to everything and be as successful as you can!”
